As an organization which is mandated to provide bulk fuel transportation, storage and handling facilities, NOIC is fully committed to the health and safety of its employees, clients and relevant stakeholders as well as environmental preservation.
Our depots are faced with risks inherent to the petroleum industry mainly fire outbreaks, explosions, falling from heights, road and rail traffic accidents. NOIC has developed a robust HSE Management framework to safeguard personnel, property and the environment from risks inherent to its operating processes. NOIC achieves this through:
- Development, implementation and maintenance of the HSE Policy Statement, Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions in line with relevant legislative, regulatory and best industry codes of practice.
- Management of HSE risks based on an array of risk management tools including Hazard and Operability Studies.
- Contractor management policies to ensure that all projects, equipment/machinery installations, repairs and maintenance works carried out adhere to relevant HSE standards.
- Defined roles and responsibilities through the appointment of relevant HSE Management personnel including responsible persons for machinery, HSE Representatives, Fire Marshals and First Aid Controllers.
- Training of employees, clients and relevant stakeholders through induction and awareness programs.
- Effective incident and accident notification, reporting and investigation processes which ensure implementation of corrective and preventive action plans.
- Reduction of carbon footprint through blending processes with ethanol and the use of low sulphur petroleum fuels.
- Membership with the National Industrial Fire Control Association (NIFCA) and establishing effective Emergency Preparedness and Response systems.
- Evaluation and monitoring of the effectiveness of HSE systems through regular audits and inspections.
- Adoption of incentives to promote a positive HSE organizational culture.
- Aligning all NOIC processes to OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004 Standard requirements.
